Vazhachal waterfall, a picturesque waterfall is close to the dense forest of Vazhachal Forest Division at the edge of Sholayar forest ranges. The Vazhachal waterfall is part of the Chalakudy river stream. It is located very close to the Athirapally waterfalls and is formed on the lower stream of Athirapally waterfalls just 5 km away from it. The height of waterfall is small compared to the Athirapally falls. Vazhachal is an ideal picnic spot. It is situated in Athirapally Panchayat of Thrissur district in Kerala State. It is located 36 km from Chalakudy town. Unlike the Athirapally waterfall one does not need to trek to visit the Vazhachal waterfall since it is situated very close to Athirapally-Valparai road and so it is easy to reach there.
Vazhachal flows through an inclined slope of more than 300 feet to descend into huge pool. But one must be very careful because the rocks are very slippery and the chance of accident is more here. It is very difficult and dangerous to step into the flow or to reach the bottom of the flow. It is advised to limit your Vazhachal trip to enjoying the natural beauty of the falls.
