Best described as a land of white shores, Payyambalam Beach is a very beautiful beach in the Kannur district with an unbroken coastline of a few kilometres. The beach attracts a lot of local people and tourists. The southern side of the beach is full of big rocks which adds the beauty of the beach. The beach is situated just 2 Km away from the Kannur town and is well connected by road and easily accessible. The southern side of the beach is also connected to a small backwater.

The beach has a beautiful garden adjacent to it. A part of the garden is entirely dedicated for children. There are a lot of play items for children in the garden including a helicopter, swing, sea-sow, slide, Merry-go-round, Climber etc. The garden has a lot of trees and benches beneath the trees where people can sit and enjoy the beauty of the Arabian Sea and watch the sunset in the evening. The wind from the sea is refreshing.

Towards the eastern part of the garden is the sculptor of a mother and child by Kanayi Kunhiraman, who also designed Yakshi sculpture of Malampuzha. This is one of the prime attraction of the Payyambalam beach park.
Another major attraction of the beach is that some of Kerala’s prominent social and political figures like E. K. Nayanar, Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai, A. K. Gopalan, Pamban Madhavan, Sukumar Azhikode, K G Marar and many more are laid to rest near this beach.

From the garden one has to cross a small bridge across the tiny backwater to reach the beach. The walk only bridge adds the beauty of the beach.
Entertainment
Other attraction of the beach is the availability of horse riding, camel riding, recently organised a flying wheel, Quad bikes (Desert Bike) etc. Quad bikes are first introduced at Payyambalam beach in Kerala. Soon they will be introduced in other beaches also. Horse riding, Camel riding etc. will only be available in the seasons.
Towards the southern part of the beach there is a rocky plain and it is an ideal place to enjoy the beauty of the Sea. It has a good scope to be developed as a wonderful walkway.
Occasionally the tourism development corporation conducts beach fests at Payyambalam beach, mostly once in a year.
Many movies have been shot in this location including the Maniratnam movie Alaipayuthey. The Worldspace ad featuring A.R. Rahman was also shot here.

From the beach, one can see ships in transit along the Malabar Coast, from beyond Kozhikode moving towards Mangalore, Goa and Bombay (Mumbai).
