Ponmudi meaning the Golden Peak is an enchanting hill station at an altitude of 1100 m above sea level blessed with cool climate, beautiful array of mountain flowers, natural beauty, exotic butterflies, small rivulets and scenic splendour. Ponmudi is part of the Western Ghats mountain ranges situated in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. It is just driving distance of 55.2 Km North east from the city of Thiruvananthapuram.
The way to Ponmudi itself offers magnificent pictures of nature’s beauty. In the short route of one or one and a half hour the views of mountains are really enticing. There are about 22 hairpin curves on the way to Ponmudi and it makes the journey a thrilling experience. Ponmudi has a carpet of thick tropical forest that rolls down to the foot of the hill range. No doubt, the salubrious atmosphere and the twisted trails across clear streams must have contributed to her health.
You can experience the calmness of local villages and the natural springs in Ponmudi. The view of vivacious singing birds, flickering butterflies and vast tea plantations sprinkled with small pretty cottages are doubtlessly a feast to the eyes.

The first to build rest houses here were the Travancore Kings for their summer retreat. At that time only people from the royal families were allowed to stay here.

Ponmudi offers excellent opportunities for trekking. Ponmudi is blessed with immense landscape and remarkable forests and mountains. One of the place which can be chosen for trekking is Varayattumotta and it takes about3 hours to reach here from Ponmudi. It is a great experience and you will definitely love it.
Another attraction in Ponmudi is the mist-laden valley in Ponmudi.
Agasthyar Hills is close to it and passes are available in the month of January and February.
